Oats,
These exceptional flapjacks are made from a base of the finest, non-genetically modified oats in the world. Oats are nature’s natural food and we include the entire natural oat bran and oat germ. Nothing is added, nothing is taken away. The process is carefully designed to conserve the natural quality whilst the milling process conserves the natural goodness. Oats have a low GI index and can complement any diet. Our oats are British grown.

Nutritional Aspects of Cereals
Cereals are the edible seeds or grains of the grass family, Gramineae. A number of cereals are grown in different countries, including rye, oats, barley, maize, triticale, millet and sorghum.

On a worldwide basis, wheat and rice are the most important crops, accounting for over 50% of the world’s cereal production. All of the cereals share some structural similarities and consist of an embryo (or germ), which contains the genetic material for a new plant, and an endosperm, which is packed with starch grains.

Cereals have a long history of use by humans. Cereals are staple foods, and are important sources of nutrients for both young and old.

Cereals and cereal products are an important source of energy, carbohydrate, protein and fibre, as well as containing a range of micronutrients such as vitamin E, some of the B vitamins, magnesium and zinc.

' People with a healthy heart, tend to eat more wholegrain foods as part of a healthy lifestyle. '

The Glycemic Index
The glycemic index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. Foods with a high GI are those which are rapidly digested and absorbed and result in marked fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Low-GI foods, by virtue of their slow digestion and absorption, produce gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels, and have proven benefits for health.
